In 2000 the title above was my attempt to discuss about the need of having a systemic view of the field of research to recognize some patterns in the research field that could be familiar in other fields, beyond the traditional way of doing research by trial and error. The article published in the electronic magazine TRIZ Journal, showed that recognizing the pattern of the problem could help to find new ideas instead of trying different ideas at random despite the systematic way of doing the trials. By that time, semantic TRIZ did not exist yet.
In the last GTM 2014 in Leiden, Netherlands, I stressed again the need to have a systemic point of view to better understand how a technology may evolve, how it is related to other technologies and why these interrelationships can affect its own evolution as a system. In this regard, the interaction between Tech Mining and semantic TRIZ can help to see the relevance of the different components, their interactions, their functions and their relative contribution as components into other technologies. The companies behind these components may be cooperating or may have a good opportunity to cooperate due to their ‘involvement’ either in one common technological system, the obvious knowledge, or in one component shared by different technologies (different keywords, experts, domains, etc.)
The logic behind this systemic view is based on the functions among the elements of a system, and the interpretation of such functions or interactions among the sentences of a written text is what semantic TRIZ is all about. The concept of linking semantically and syntactically the words of a sentence as our brain does when reading, should allow to understand logical links and therefore real meaning for finding new relations and possible technological partners, as Prof. Xuefeng Wang aims to work jointly with us.
