On November 5, 2021, Dr. Chen Siyi, associate professor of Philosophy at Peking University, was invited to deliver an online lecture entitled "Aristotle on Music, Government and Education". Chen Si a associate professor has graduated from Beijing university, the university of Cambridge, for the classics, Ph.D., the philosophy department of Peking University, associate professor, researcher, doctoral supervisor, at the same time as the professional committee of the national society of ancient Greek and Roman philosophy of foreign philosophy directors, researcher at the institute of foreign philosophy of Peking University, such as position, main research direction for the ancient Greek philosophy, ethics, etc.
In the lecture, Teacher Chen gave a brief introduction to the life of Aristotle. Aristotle was the master of ancient Greek philosophy, and left a valuable wealth to future generations in philosophy, ethics, aesthetics and other aspects. His understanding of music, government and education is an important embodiment of ancient Greek city-state civilization. Aristotle likened the regime to music, emphasizing that it is a kind of rational harmonious order and emotional expression of organic fusion. Chen gave a systematic account of Aristotle's ideas, showing the students how music education shapes the soul of the citizen and blends the virtue of the citizen with the order of the government. After the lecture, Mr. Chen also had a warm exchange with the students on the philosophical issues they were interested in.
