At 9:00 am on April 13, 2018, Professor Zhou Zheng of the School of Business and Economics of the University of Hong Kong was invited to give an academic lecture entitled "How to Do Strategic Research with Chinese Characteristics" in the conference room 418 of the main building. The lecture was chaired by Professor Ma Baolong, Head of Marketing Department. Some faculty members and graduate students participated in the lecture.
First of all, Professor Zhou Zheng summed up the challenges faced by Chinese companies when they innovated, and they were mainly divided into three categories: economic challenges, political and legal challenges, and social challenges, and listed the innovation forms of different companies. Next, Professor Zhou Zheng proposed the ability needed to better meet the above three challenges and the research topics that could be carried out accordingly. Then, Zhou Zheng gave lectures on how to transform the above-mentioned research topics such as challenges and abilities into three methods of academic research: conceptualization, contextualization, and microcosmization of macro problems. Finally, in the interactive discussion between teachers and students, students discussed and exchanged ideas with Professor Zhou Zheng on how to use theory, data usage, and selection of proxy variables. Teachers and students attending the meeting all expressed that they have benefited greatly.
